A dated and cramped kitchen/family room undergoes a remodeling transformation. The finished product: a modern kitchen space with plenty of light, beautiful cabinetry, storage, and space to live. The challenge was to increase the size of the kitchen and family room area without changing the footprint of the house due to local wetlands setback requirements.
We approached the kitchen remodeling project by cantilevering the kitchen’s rear wall by three feet to add much needed space to the new kitchen without increasing the foundation size. Reconfiguring the rear deck and moving the deck stairs made access easier and the outdoor space more usable. We hand built custom cabinetry in both the remodeled kitchen and family room.
We wanted to increase light and space between the kitchen and family room, and found a solution by taking away an unused portion of the hall powder room and a poorly sized closet. This small remodeling change made an enormous difference in joining the kitchen and family rooms and created great flow for entertaining and living.
